Welcome
to Centerpoint
Centerpoint is a dynamic place where students, staff
and parents work together to create the best possible learning environment
for all children.
*New Leadership at Centerpoint
Welcome to the new school year. We excited to get this new academic year
rolling and look forward to working with all our families.
We would like to introduce our new leadership team here
at Centerpoint. We would like to welcome Becky Berkas,
our new principal. She has been working at Birch Lake Elementary here
in White Bear over
the last year. As we unpack this new leadership model, we are very
excited to have her on board. Our new program coordinator is a familiar
face, formerly a Centerpoint teacher and curriculum leader, John
Leininger has
taken up this new position and will also assume duties as a Learning
Skill
specialist.
Becky Peterson will be
working with John as the Program Coordinator for Parkview Elementary
School,
which
shares a campus with Centerpoint.
The Centerpoint staff is looking forward to working with this new team
as it plans for the future.
*New Faces in the Classroom
We would like to welcome our new teachers for this year.
Kristine Fishbach joins us in Kindergarten on our
primary team. She comes to us from the Centennial Schools where she
was a Title I teacher.
Kirsten Doous, a former Centerpoint teacher returns after
teaching two years in the Dominican Republic. She joins our 1st grade
team.
Sandy Kriz Herbert, also a former Centerpoint
teacher joins us after working in at Hugo Elementary school for the
last few years. She will be joining the 4th & 5th grade team.
Our teachers
and staff bring a wealth of experience to the classroom! Learn more
about all of them on our STAFF page.
*30 years
In 1976 a small group of parents and teachers had an
idea for a school here in White Bear Lake. Putting their heads together
they came up with plan to create a school that would look and feel
different. Thus was born FAE (Flexible Alternative Education). This
was the birth of Centerpoint as we know it. This year we are celebrating
30 years of providing the White Bear Community with an Elementary School
choice program.
* International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Update:
The Centerpoint Staff is excited to announce that the
first step in the process of becoming an IB school is in place (application
A). We should soon hear about our status as a Candidate School
and will begin a two to three year process of self study and evaluation.
The tremendous support from our community, staff and district officials
have made this possible and we would like to thank all the hard work
they have put into this process. We are looking forward to digging
in and making it happen.
For more information about the International
Baccalaureate Organization, check out the IBO website.
*Media Renovation
With dedication and commitment, the new media center
opened last spring, on time and and on budget. We are proud of our
new media center and are very
happy with the look, feel and functionality of this space. The new
space has eased some of the crowding as the old media center is now
available for classrooms an support services. Look at the Photo
and Image Galleries for pictures of the building project.
