Creating a news item
- Login
In order to add content to this site, you must be logged in. This example assumes your login is for a Staff or Cocom member. If you need a login, return the the help screen and send email to John or Jason.
- Decide where to create your news item.
This isn't as hard as it seems. Anywhere your user login can create content, you can create a news item and it will still show up as a news item on the site. Still, to keep things organized, a strategy is a good idea. Here are some examples:
- Home folder
A good place would be you home folder. Click the my folder item in the top blue bar.
- News folder inside your home folder
To keep your home folder clean, you could create a News folder inside your home folder and create your news item there. A good plan would be to combine news and also calendar events in a single folder. Events is probably a better name than news. See the creating a folder example (not done yet).
- A general Events folder
A general Events folder could be used by all logins to place created news and events.
This example will use my folder for your login. So once you are logged in, click on my folder to go there.
- Add a news item to the folder
Once you are in a folder, adding an item is as simple as selecting Add new item and entering the short name, title and content for the news item.
- Enter a short name and title
Short names are used in the URL path for the item. They should be a single word (no spaces) and all lower case. Titles can be anything you want to title an item.
- Enter the content body and save
Further on the same page you type in your content. You can use plain text, html, or use simple formating called structured text. You could also upload text or html content by clicking Chose File.
In this case the content entered is using structured text, so select that and click the Save button.
- View the result
Finally, here is the view of our news item. To get it to display to others as a news item you need to change its status to Publish. See the Publish item in the menu below?
Once published the news item will be viewable in the News area. Click the news tab at the top of the page to see all news. You can also make news items expire by clicking Properties and setting an expiration date.
